The Block

For the last two weeks I’ve been on school holidays and have done lots of great things. On the middle weekend I went to the “block”, click here to read a previous post I have written about the block. These holidays I went to the “block” with our family friends Wendy, Anthony, Emily and Cameron. Cameron who’s also in my grade this year has written a guest post about our trip.

By Cameron

On the holidays I went to Jarrod’s Block with my family. I rode the quad bike. I went through the muddy puddles and mud went everywhere. The back of my coat was covered in mud.

Jarrod and I went yabbying.  We caught lots of big and little yabbies. Jarrod and I found some rabbit holes so we made up some homemade traps with wire and sticks.  But we did not catch any rabbits. Jarrod’s Dad got a rabbit and we used this for yabby bait.

My sister Emily rode Jarrod’s motorbike, it is a two wheeler.  Emily loved it so much she did not want to get off the motorbike and her coat was also covered in mud.

For dinner on the BBQ we had dim Sims, sausages, hamburgers and hash browns cooked by the Dads’ it was delicious. For breakfast we had bacon and eggs on the BBQ.

I slept in a room with Jarrod, Tyler and Melane in my sleeping bag.

Tyler, Jarrod, Emily and I all had a turn at Emily’s homemade rocket launcher.  It was awesome and we all got wet. The rocket went high up in the sky and my Dad held the pole.

Thanks for a great weekend Jarrod, Tyler, Melane and Cameron.

What did you do or like to do on your break?

My trip to Sandown

On the 15th of September I went to watch the V8 supercars at the Sandown 500, in Melbourne. I went with my dad, brother Tyler and some of my dads friends.

The V8’s are a unique type of racing car to Australia, you can learn more about by clicking here.

We went for a walk around to look at the different cars and got lots of posters from the different teams. I also got stuck in a tree but eventually my dad came and helped me down and went rolling down a hill it was really cool.

Here is a video I made of my trip to Sandown 500

Have you been to Sandown?

Have you been to the car racing?

Our new iPad and apps

We got a new iPad and its great because it has a camera. It also has a really cool feature were you can talk to your iPad and it types for you. I thought I’d test it with this post and it was great and saved my fingers from all the typing.

We have put some new apps on the iPad, some of my favourites are:

  • Rover because it lets you on Mathletics and other web sites that the iPad doesn’t normally work on.

  • Photo Booth which came with the new iPad, it allows you to make your pictures more effective than just using a normal camera.
  • Photo speak because you can take photos and make the photos move and talk.

  • Toontastic because you get to make your own cartoon and get to make characters move and talk.

We still have our old iPad, the iPad 1 but I try to go on the new iPad as much as I can because it’s so much better.

Have you got an iPad 3?

What’s your favourite thing about the iPad?

This term I began to learn the piano / keyboard, so far I have learnt a lot.

The first week I learnt the following notations:

  • Bass Clef.
  • Treble Clef.
  • Starf.

The second week I learnt these notes:

  • C.
  • A.
  • F.
  • G.
  • B.
  • D.
  • E.

I also got to do some exercises on the keyboard with these notes.

The piano is really hard and takes a lot of concentration. My mum used to play the drums but she thinks they’re too loud for me to play.

What did you vote for?

Have you learnt an instrument and did you like it?

Water tornado

Today my brother, Mum and I all made a water tornado. When my Mum did placement for her University course the class she was in where learning about weather and their teacher made a water tornado, so Mum decided to teach us how to make one. This term I’m learning about water at school so I’m going to take it in to show my class as well.

To make a water tornado you need:

  • water
  • food dye
  • two plastic bottles
  • electric tape

Then you tip the bottles upside down and swirl to create a water tornado.

Watch the videos below to see how it’s done.

What did you think of the water tornado?

Have made a water tornado?

1st Anniversary Post

It has now been a year since I started my own blog, my very first post was on 27th of June 2011. I have had so much fun creating posts and having the chance to have conversations with so many people from all parts of the world.

On the 13th of July 2011 I wrote a post called My visitors in that post I set myself a goal of reaching 300 visitors before the end of Term 3, I was amazed to discover that I reached that goal within a week of writing the post. I’ve now had 0ver 7,300 visitors to my blog in a year from 98 countries. My new goal will be to get visitors from over 100 countries on my ClustrMap and over 10,000 visitors by the end of the year.

I have written lots of different posts on my blog some of my favourites have been:

I also loved my special surprise post my Mum wrote for my birthday.

Some of the highlights have been:

My Story

I made a story up from my imagination. Here’s what it turned out to be.

 The Scariest Story Ever

It was a dark and stormy night. Everyone was asleep except Zac. Who was staring out his window. He saw people in black cloaks it looked like a meeting and right he was. Vampires, ghosts, monsters and lots more. Zac snuck out side to sneak a peek. When Zac got out of the house all he saw was just a grave yard .

“That was not there before” said Zac. Then Zac heard a strange voice and it said “ You are not alone” “I’m alone” said Zac.

But just then the graveyard disappeared. But a whole heap of bats attacked Zac. Zac called for help but no one came. Everyone was deep asleep. Zac got a torch and shined them all with it, which made them all disappear.

Now it’s up to you to write how the story ends.

Have you ever made a story before?

My Lego creations

I like making creations with my Lego, I have got lots of Lego as presents for my birthday’s and Christmas but some of my Lego was my mum’s from when she was young.

I have a new app on my iPad called Lego instructions. The app lets you download different designs to make. First it shows you a preview of the thing you want to build, then you click the arrows and it shows you step by step how to make the item. It has lots of different designs to choose from some are really hard while others are easy.

My brother Tyler and I have had great fun making some creations, have a look at my slideshow to check them out.

Vote in my poll for your favourite creation.

What do you like to make with Lego?

Happy Mothers day 2012

Today in Aust it is mothers day so.

Happy mothers day.

I made this picture.

Mothers day is a special day for mums all over the world.

So today I just want to say thank you to my mum and my nana.

I think my mum and nana are so special because they care for me a lot.

A mother’s love determines how
We love ourselves and others.
There is no sky we’ll ever see
Not lit by that first love.

Stripped of love, the universe
Would drive us mad with pain;
But we are born into a world
That greets our cries with joy.

How much I owe you for the kiss
That told me who I was!
The greatest gift–a love of life–
Lay laughing in your eyes.

Because of you my world still has
The soft grace of your smile;
And every wind of fortune bears
The scent of your caress.

This poem is by Nicholas Gordon.

Why is your mum so special?
